x	x statho on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I read other travelers' reviews that this restaurant applies racist practices refusing seating to people and i thought it's an exaggeration, but it's 100% true. A group of 3 adults were refused to seat on a Friday afternoon during low season, when only 3 out of 20 tables were occupied, with the excuse that the restaurant is only for hotel guests(!) When we said that our hotel receptionist recommended this restaurant and he couldn't have been wrong, the waiter changed the excuse saying that they were overbooked! When i requested a table for next day, any time, he pretended that he looked into his reservations and shamelessly replied that there was no availability for the whole next day! Completely ridiculous. One star only because there is not zero. PS1. An hour later we passed by again and the restaurant was still 80% empty. PS2. We are white Europeans, so the discrimination does not have to do with the skin color. When there are so many negative reviews and the management does not take action, someone would easily assume that they have guided this attitude for their own reasons.
C	Catherine Lim on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Located right next to the ferry point, my husband and I were having low expectations for the food as the restaurant could be full just because of its prime location. We were both pleasantly surprised that the char grilled fish, pork schnitzel and chestnut soup were all pretty delicious! Service was great as staff were kind and approachable. Do consider dropping by for their hot chocolate with rum if you are looking for a place to dine!
R	Ruth Lowe on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great experience last night! Our service was perfect and they were so much fun to interact with. We loved the food. Excellent salads and main courses. The highlight were the spinach dumplings. Incredible! Two in our group had the two different strudl’s and enjoyed them.
A	Aylwyn Gan on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice breakfast. Enjoyed breakfast with a view of the lake as was staying here at the hotel as guest during the NY period. Had NY Eve and NY 2020 Dinner here. Nice service and food was good. Crowded during dinner service as one of the better restaurants in Hallstatt. You will get a nice view of the lake during meal times. Poor service crew were they were very busy due to lack of staff at the restaurant.

Read so many other reviews making the exact same point.Basically the people out of Europe is obviously invisible to the waiter. Funny behavior for a restaurant at the heart of a famous tourist destination.
S	Shun Y on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Despite the fact that we received decent service, we witnessed their “popular” racism act by one of old lady (silver hair, not black) waiters, so I cannot give them any star. There was a single Chinese lady and Indian(?) girl sitting window tables, but they both were relocated when German speaking customers came to the restaurant. She did not even ask them to move, but she just moved their personal belongings (wallet?) from the table to a new table inside and asked them to use the new table. We do not want to see apartheid anymore in the 21st century. We must not accept such an act. It’s really pity that only a few staff deteriorated the reputation while their kitchen did a great job for foods, and some of the staff were really nice and welcoming.

And after a long discussion with the staff they started calling me a liar and made jokes with his colleague. The worst! The best place to find good food and a positive vibe in Hallstatt is the restaurant “simple 169”.
