★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Einfach ein tolles historisches Bauwerk mit viel Historik. Sehr schöner Durchgang von der Schatzkammer zum Platz "in der Burg".
Simply a great historical building with a lot of history. Very nice passage from the treasury to the place "in the castle".

Unique door, the oldest in the imperial palace, dedicated to the Swiss guards who also controlled accesses here.

Striking brick red arches, the Swiss are known for their loyalty. Almost all palaces in European countries are specially guarded by the Swiss. This gate leads to the old palace, which is the oldest gate in the old palace.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Schweizertor wurde im 16. Jahrhundert errichtet. Die heutigen Farben entsprechen aber wohl nicht dem Original. Es ist aber ein schönes Element im Burghof.
Swiss Gate was built in the 16th century. Today's colors are probably not the same as the original. But it is a nice element in the castle courtyard.

The splendid Renaissance portal took the name of the Swiss Gate in the 17th century, when Maria Theresa's husband, Emperor Stephan von Lothringer, set up a Swiss guard as the Pope. This magnificent Renaissance portal is the work of the painter, stonemason and builder of Pietro Ferrabosco fortresses and was built in 1552 in just one year.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In the inner courtyard of the Hofburg is the original main entrance to the palace, known as Schweizertor, or the Swiss Gate. This gate predates back to the Renaissance and its red black and golden colour stands out among the baroque architecture of its surrounding. Pass through the ornately decorated gate and you'll reach the Swiss Wing and the chapel. If you have heard of the Vienna Boys Choir, do drop by on Sundays as my guide told me it's one of the cheapest means of watching a live performance.
