★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used to work at a bike shop and do most of my own bike maintenance, which also means I find it very difficult to trust my bike with another mechanic, let alone pay them to do something I know I could do myself.
But last weekend after a morning of riding at the trail centre, I somehow managed to strip the threads of my fork post mount. I walked my bike into the shop and Mr Sasha (sorry if i got his name wrong) thought it might be possible to fix. He did not promise anything, just that he would try, most importantly, he did not turn me away because this is really not a "normal" fix.
I didn't want to buy thread cutting tools just for one use and neither did I want to buy new fork lowers, so I thought why not let them give it a go. I got a message on the first day of their work week to say the bike was fixed and the charges were reasonable.
The next time my wife lets me buy a new bike, this is where I am coming.
