Varias puertas antiguas bloquearon Salzburgo a intrusos externos.
Several old doors blocked Salzburg from outside intruders. One of the oldest is the Gstättentor Gate, sometimes called the Schleiferbogen Gate right next to the Blasiuskirche Church. The lane you are in is called Gstättengasse. This gate includes parts of the oldest city walls of Salzburg from the 13th century, but was further enlarged and fortified under Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus in the 17th century. Sittikus' shield can still be seen on both sides of the door. This is not the only attraction in the area: right next to the Gstättentor Gate it is supposed to be the oldest bakery in Salzburg, today used as an art gallery. We don't know how this legend began, but in fact, the oldest bakery in Salzburg is that of St. Peter's Abbey, which was founded in 1229, is still running, and has hardly changed since its founding.

The gate was one of the three main gates to the city in the Middle Ages before 1300. In addition, the city gates were simply there at the time. The Westertor led over Mülln to the west, the Ostertor on the right bank of the Salzach to the east and the Nonntalertor to the south into the mountains

The Gstattentor is one of the many ancient gates that can be found in Salzburg. One of the oldest, it can be found just next to the Blasiuskirche Church. This gate was parts of Salzburg′s oldest city walls from the 13th century, then extended and further fortified under Prince Archbishop Markus Sittikus in the 17th century. The coat of arms of Sittikus can still be seen on both sides of the gate. It's a little bit of history, but there's don't go out of the way to see it.
