Man hat vom Gipfel eine hervorragende Aussicht auf Rax und Schneeberg sowie die Semmeringbahn (eröffnet 1854, UNESCO Weltkulturerbe). Der kürzeste Anstieg führt vom ehemaligen Bärenwirt an der B17 in einer knappen Stunde fast eben NNO zum Eselstein. Die letzten paar Meter über Kalkfelsen zum Gipfel sind versichert. The approx. 980 m high donkey stone protrudes from the wooded ridge between the old Semmeringpass road (B17) and the Adlitzgräben. From the summit you have an excellent view of Rax and Schneeberg as well as the Semmeringbahn (opened in 1854, UNESCO World Heritage Site). The shortest climb leads from the former Bärenwirt on the B17 in almost an hour to the Eselstein. The last few meters above limestone rocks to the summit are insured.

Just park the car on your way up to the Semmering down the road approximately 1 km from the exit on the highway towards Greis / Semmering. From there you go up a slope where are several houses on the right. At the end of the houses where the forest starts you'll see the yellow board with Eselstein on it.
