In that horrible age, one-third of the people in Vienna were killed in the plague. Augustine used humorous language, happy bagpipes and happy songs to comfort the painful hearts of Viennese people. There is a story of Augustine working with the dead. One night, Augustine fell into the street after being drunk. The cleaner thought he was a dead person and transported him to the burial pit. The next day he woke up from a deep sleep and saw that there were dead people around him, and he didn't understand how he would sleep with the dead body. When he hurriedly crawled out of the dead pile, he immediately regained his happy nature and walked home smiling and singing all the way. Later, he compiled this experience into a song and sang it everywhere, adding the content of the corpse pit overnight in his program dedicated to the guests. The statue of Augustine was built in 1908. Vienna also has a popular folk song "Ah! Lovely Augustine".

The statue of this much-celebrated Viennese is unfortunately a bit lost between all the (tall) houses with their, albeit magnificent, facades.
