Franz Grillparzer, called by some a national poet, was a talented playwright. The architectural wall represents his dramas. Born in the year of Mozart's death, he lived to be over 80 years old. The monument was unveiled on May 23, 1889, being the work of several sculptors.

The monument features a statue of Grillparzer, standing in front of asemi-elliptical wall. The wall bears relief sculptures of scenes from his plays such as The dream of a life, King Ottokar's happiness and end and Sappho etc.
The monument is located in Volksgarten and is worth a look if visiting.
