★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Pestsaule is a Plague Column erected after the Great Plague epidemic in 1679. As with most types of columns like this in Central Europe, the column takes the form of a Trinity Column. The column is a fine example of a particularly rich Baroque style monument
The column is roughly divided into three parts, from top to bottom featuring the Holy Trinity, Angels and Saints, finally at the bottom, the parts of Austro-Hungary and Leopold I giving thanks.
Worth going out of the way to see this monument, such is it’s richness, it would not be out of place in a cathedral.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An impressive piece of art in the center of Vienna. This baroque monument was built to commemorate the end of the great plague in Vienna in 1679, and shows emperor Leopold kneeling and praying to God. This is one of the most beautiful sculptures and definitely worth a visit.
