Excellant art gallery. Lots and lots of art work to see. But a little bit difficult to find although it's not so far from the Hofburg. It really has some fantastic paintings and sculpture from the Austro-Hungarian empire as well as from other European kingdoms from over the centuries. Although it's one of the smaller museums in town, you'll easily spend more than 3 hours if you go through the whole place, appreciating their collection. Worth a visit if you are an art lover.

Lovely little museum. A bit smaller than most, count 2 hours if you take it slow. Pity that everything is written in German.

interesting special exhibitions and art events (book presentations, lectures,...) the location currently hosts the gallery of the academy of fine arts - don‘t miss the world famous Hieronymus Bosch and Lucas Cranach paintings

We visited the Austrian Theatre Museum back in March. At this time they were hosting masterpieces from the Academy of Fine Arts while the picture gallery there is closed for renovations. Opening hours are 10-6pm (Closed on Tuesdays). At this time you can see the the important 'Last Judgement' triptych by Hieronymus Bosch as well as a nice selection of works by Old Masters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony Van Dyke. The Bosch work in particular is a masterpiece worth the price of admission to view. We also enjoyed stepping into the impressive Eroica Hall to view the ceiling frescos here. These date back to 1724-29 and are the works of Dutch painter Jacob van Schuppen. Do take a few minutes to enjoy this room as well if it is open and available to be seen during your time at the Austrian Theatre Museum.

Veey beautiful museum. The only Bosch paint worth the price of the entrace, even if is the only one present made by this artist. The rest of the exibhition is good and intetesting even if there is not so much to see.

This place really bummed me out. I had a choice of a few amazing museums to go to in the area and only had an hour to pick one. I picked this one because I'm a puppet maker and wanted to support anything puppet related even though I knew it would be a bit smaller. It was so small it barely entertained me for 30 minutes. The place is beautiful and I bet if you see a puppet show here it would be incredible but as a museum that charges 15 euro a customer it felt like a rip off. I wouldn't be as upset if it was 3-5 euro but any more than that they are being dishonest.

To be fair, I was a bit disappointed by the collection. The palace is beautiful. The staircase and the Großer Sall are worth visiting. The staff was friendly, but I did not find much to see. Marionettes exhibition was interesting.
