Erreichbar ist das Stift über den Hohen Weg, von der Kaigasse über die Nonnbergstiege. Das Benediktinen-Stift Nonnberg liegt leicht erhöht am Fuße des Festungsberges. Voraussichtlich wurde 1000 an heutiger Stelle von Kaiser Heinrich II. eine romanische Basilika errichtet. Um 1006 brannte die erste Klosterkirche ab. Eine neue Klosterkirche Mariae Himmelfahrt wurde mit maßgeblicher Hilfe Heinrichs II. im Jahr 1009 vollendet. Es ist das heute weltweit älteste christliche Frauenkloster mit ununterbrochener Tradition. Die Kirche ist täglich von 6.45 Uhr bis zum Einbruch der Dunkelheit geöffnet. Während des Gottesdienstes sind keine Besichtigungen möglich.

The monastery can be reached via the Hohe Weg, from Kaigasse via the Nonnbergstiege. The Benedictine Abbey of Nonnberg is slightly elevated at the foot of the fortress mountain. A Romanesque basilica was probably built in 1000 by Emperor Heinrich II. The first monastery church burned down around 1006. A new monastery church of the Assumption of Mary was completed in 1009 with the significant help of Henry II. It is the oldest Christian convent in the world with an uninterrupted tradition. The church is open daily from 6.45am until dark. Visits are not possible during the service.
