Incredibly friendly service even for the 11 of us with 7 kids, and the food was amazing. The truffle pasta was great, as was the truffle flatbread (Flammkuchen). Wiener Schnitzel and Schweinsbraten is a must as well. Everyone wanted to cancel our other reservations to come back tomorrow.

Excellent local food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I’ve lived in Germany for 3 years now and this was some of the best Wiener schnitzel I’ve had and my wife’s beef loin was excellent as well. Highly recommended!

Thanks, the schnitzel was absolutely great. Tender meat and crispy breadcrumbs.

This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel. I was introduced to Gasthaus Hinterbrühl in 1971 when I was a participant in the first semester of a study program sponsored by Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University, a program that became Salzburg College. I have dined at Gasthaus Hinterbrühl every time I have returned to Salzburg since then. In the past five days I have had dinner here twice. The first time I ordered Schweinshax'n with Knödel and cabbage salad: the knuckle was wonderfully cooked: moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. DELICIOUS! The second time I ordered Wiener Schnitzel (veal), and it was amazing: the breading was light, yet crisp, and the veal was still juicy and tender. It is usually served with warm potato salad, but I asked for a substitution of red cabbage (which they call blue cabbage) YUMMY! It's the best of all of the Schnitzels I've eaten on this trip. In addition to delicious food, you will be hosted by two knowledgeable, charming, and jovial owners: siblings Alex and Verena; the expert chef is Verena's husband Dennis (who used to work at Kloster Andechs near Munich). They have kept the menu small but interesting. Try the appetizers or desserts too; you will be delighted with their taste and artistry. Make your way to Gasthaus Hinterbrühl at Schanzlgasse 12; you'll be glad you did.

Most terrible food in my life. We order a pork and "homemate" pasta. The food was ready at about 4 minutes... The food looks like they just heat it up in the microwave. The food smells terrible. The pork was raw. It could not cut with the knife. We ate just 2 small pieces and leave that place. They never ask why we leave the 9/10 of the food in the dishes untouched. But they ask for tips..

Probably the very best restaurant we’ve been to in Italy and Austria in the past 5 weeks. Seriously!!! You will not regret a dinner here. The services excellent, but the food isn’t totally outstanding!!! We’ve had Almost everything on the menu, and everything is just so good. Don’t miss it!

We had a delicious dinner and the service was excellent. I recommend this place 100%. They also speak very well English and make you feel super comfortable and welcome. Indira and Andy gave us a wonderful customer service and kudos to the chef Dennis for cooking with so much love and dedication.
