★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the interesting monuments at Ratshausplatz is the statue of the 12th-century Duke of Austria Henry II (Heinrich II. Jasomirgott).
This statue is the work of Franz Melnitzky (1867) and depicts a crowned Duke Henry II in military attire with sword in belt. His right hand upon his hip, he holds a partially rolled scroll in his left while peering upward and to the right.
Overall, this is another of the nice monuments that you can view on the north and south side of the pathway leading to Rathaus (City Hall) at Rathausplatz. Give it and the others a few minutes if you enjoy monument viewing and plan to spend time here during visits to Vienna.
