The Otto Wagner House is a very nice historic house. In general, the whole Otto Wagner street (Harmoniegasse) is sweet as sugar.

The first Otto Wagner house is held in a delicate pink and, like the other houses on Harmoniegasse, is a wonderful example of late Biedermeier architecture. The buildings are all simple and elegant, the small alley was completely planned by Otto-Wagner and is therefore like a piece. The view from Liechtensteinstrasse into the alley, at the end of which the former Harmonietheater stands like a palace, is impressive.

Interesting to see the very beginnings of this world famous architect, Harmoniegasse number 9 is an off-white slightly eggshell coloured classicistic building, well kept, elegant architecture, structured facade. Stunning to think this house was built more than 150 years ago. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public, which makes it less attractive for not so architecture affine people. The whole little street was planned by Otto Wagner, and it is a real gem in the Austrian capital: Only 100 meters, crowned by the middle wing of the Otto Wagner Palace at the end of the street. It is apparently the only street in Vienna that was designed in one piece by one architect, and it’s really pretty: Flowers on the sidewalks, ivy growing on the facades, and all those houses and facades perfectly match in style and perspective with the palace at the far end. I think it’s especially pretty in the warm months, when you walk up towards the palais building (that used to be a theater) you feel like walking through a Wagner museum. When you walk into the street, the first one to your right is the actual “First Otto-Wagner-House”. This house and also the little street is an impressive piece of architectural history. Many coffee shops nearby, and it should be mentioned that only a minute’s walk away is the baroque Liechtenstein palace, an impressive city palace with lush and extensive palace gardens open for everyone.
