Matrashouse is a small basic mountain chalet on the top of Hochköning, which offers beds and simple local food (soups, pasta, etc.) and beverages (beer, limonades, juices etc.). Prices are reasonable, WC included, without drinking water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Thats one of the most amazing Mountain Huts I have ever stayed in. Its located in the middle of nowhere. And its situated at around 3000 meter above se level just beside mountain peak Hochkönig (2941m). Sunset and sunrise is really amazing from there.
Being the highest point of the region, it offers 360degree panoramic view which is absolutely awesome. Reaching there from Artherhaus side by hiking is not very difficult although it takes 6 hours for regular hiker. One can reach there using a very heavy klettersteig way too. There is no cablecar.
The owner of the hut is really helpful and nice person.
The hut is open only from June to September.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is at the summit of the Hochkönig. For people who aren't used to a 4-6h hike to get on the top in one day, there is a possibility to stay there overnight. The view from the Matrashaus is amazing, especially when there is blue sky. From the summit you can see the biggest mountain in Austria.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely hut at a stunning location. Very friendly hosts and awesome food. Don't underestimate the hike... Inexperienced hiker? Avoid the west- and Southside routes, take the route via Mitterfeldalm, bring enough water and expect a 5hrs walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful views all around! The hut owner is also very friendly, upon calling beforehand, he could even accomodate a gluten-free dinner. Definitely worth the hike :)
