★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hannakenbrunnen is an interesting small fountain located at the bottom of the staircase leading up to Maria Am Gestade (St. Mary's on the Bank) church..
This is the work of Rudolf Schmidt in 1937 and is an octagonal fountain with a small stone basin. In the centre of the basin is a small block of male figures, two are carrying an injured companion. There is a water pitcher and a dog below them. It is an interesting monument composition that I enjoyed seeing during a visit to Vienna this past March.
You can conveniently view Hannakenbrunnen before or after seeing St. Mary's on the Bank church. Give it a few minutes before continuing on with other intended sightseeing.
