★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Der Florianibrunnen is a Baroque fountain on the old market of the Old Town of Salzburg. The fountain features a central pillar with a sculpture of St. Florian, who as a soldier in the Roman Army was in addition to his military duties, was also responsible for organising and leading firefighting brigades. For that reason he is also the patron saint said to protect buildings from fire and popular saint to put on fountains and wells in Austria.
The fountain is surrounded by a fence. Scenes of horseback riders, animals, plants and coats of arms are incorporated into the fence, making it particularly attractive.
The fountain is located in Alter Markt, so it's worthwhile combining the visit of two great attractions.
