Today, 24th of July, 2016 in the afternoon around 3:30pm local time. My friend and I enjoyed a great day in beautiful and unforgettable Salzburg, along with our Austrian hosts. We decided to go to the Fürst shop to buy the famous local chocolates to take home. We came out of the shop regretting ever being in the shop. While we were choosing the package, the only lady in charge in the shop suddenly abandoned her paying customers and jumped on us. Surprising me with harsh pull on my shoulder strap of my purse from behind, she quickly switched two packages I misplaced on the shelf. I did not know what she was saying, but her body language was unmistaken. She was very angry that I messed up her shelf during my selection. I remembered saying sorry to her, but immediately wanted to take the sorry back. Having an Asian face does make me very sensitive to this kinds of treatment, but up to this moment, I have felt very welcomed by Austrians. I hesitated a great deal on whether I should buy anything from her. As I am very aware that her behavior towards me and my friend did not represent the company and the most of Austrians she is part of. I ended up buying the chocolates because I thought that my family and friend could enjoyed it and she should not be the one who prevented me from doing so. But I have to admit that I still wonder if there was better explanation of her behavior. I am very hopeful that other Austrians will make me feel better again. From Chicago, USA.
