Wieden Bräu - Erste Wiedner Gasthausbrauerei - Waaggasse 5

Great place for schnitzel and in-house brewed beer. Came here right after arriving in Vienna, and glad I did. Friendly staff who can speak English (and have an English menu) and a cozy environment.

The beer is very good and fresh here. We went for lunch, the place wasn’t too busy and were seated easily. Similar to other reviews, while the beer was good the food was just OK. Had the bratwurst (wrapped in bacon with some cheese) which was alright, French fries and coleslaw. The slaw was very mayo/cream based, which is not my thing so I had three bites and skipped the rest of it. The fries were good. My wife got the chicken salad, which was a good sized portion but had way too much dressing (again a cream-based dressing). Others may like that, but it wasn’t our thing. The desert menu looked really good (the English menu has pictures of dishes which is helpful), but after our meals we couldn’t eat any more. Again, go for the beer.

Update 1-JUL-20: Now even the beer is not worth the trip -esp. the beer of the month „Frühlingsbier“ IPA doesn’t taste like an Pale Ale at all - more like a „Weizenbier“ The food did not improve - no surprise in that - and is served lukewarm - but this might have been caused by reseating us twice - first to rain and then to excessive noise inside - but the waiters have been aware of our whereabouts! Speaking of which - the noise is the absolute killer for the restaurant - if there are 2 other people in the Rooms, its so loud that you have to raise your voice to an uncomfortable level and listening to someone is a task you have to really focus on. If you want to have a conversation with your company - this is not the place to go to. Nothing in the rooms is breaking the noise (would be easy to fix). The garden might be an option but the seating is also very close so it is not really cozy. If you are looking to grab a bite and a nice beer - walk to the Schleifmühlgasse 2 and visit the „Four Bells - Irish Pub“ - you will get a pleasant surprise - better beer and better food and a much better noise level (believe it or not). My old review 3 years ago: The beer is good but the food is just OK and most of the time not worth the price.

No, absolutely no. Unfriendly, long waiting for waiter and the drinks, confusing menu. It once was a great location, but isn't any longer. Brought international guests there, will need do it again. Hugely disappointing.

Even though its a brewery, with excellent homebrewed beers btw that you should try, the food is also excellent and in a very beautiful space that is constructed with thought and love, creating a cozy atmosphere and a must see place at your stay in Vienna.

Newly renovated and only reopened in December 2021 with a bang...great modern atmosphere with a rural touch with its own beer brewery. And the food...absolute delicious. The friendly and welcoming service lady was making the stay even more enjoyable and we will come back for sure. Absolute recommendation!!!

Amazing food - traditional Austrian dishes with a fresh and creative touch! Locally brewed and really tasty beer as well as one of the nicest waiters we have met so far! Also, don't trust the pictures here, the restaurant is newly renovated and has now a modern, urban look.

What used to be a more traditional pub is now more like a fancy craft beer taproom as I understand they've quite recently refurbished. It's very smart now with nice decor and lighting. All the beers I tried tasted very nice, unfortunately didn't try any food so cannot comment on that. Service was good and so were the prices!
