I really liked this museum! Each of the exhibits were fresh and original, yet contained traditional historical content too. At times I found the layout a bit confusing as there were no clear signs saying where to start or what room to go into next. Overall, an interesting place!

Nice history layer and experience provided by the museum on the city's long and varied history. Allow at least 2 hours to properly experience the varied collextions. More if you like to check out the interesting historical musical instruments samples and art pieces.

lovely museum, sadly their online presence is a little weak, as it isn't really clear whats on display. visited and looked forward to Makart paintings, only to find out that the floor they're on, is currently not open to visitors. Left a little disappointed, however the Festspiele exhibition is quite nice and I do think their prices are fair.

For in-depth understanding of Salzburg’s history this is a must visit. Also, the glockenspiel tower with its 30+ bells appeals to most. They have some amazing artefacts from Roman times and cover all periods of history to modern times. Particularly the very eventful last 400 years.

Museum is well done but there's a lot of history about the museum itself and it's many faces over the years. Very interesting how it played a role during WWII, however all in all it's just a simple museum.

A lot of historical artwork showing the archbishops of area that were religious leaders. An entire room of historic musical instruments. There is also quite a bit of more modern art. Rooms full of ancient artifacts from the area, including Roman artifacts. Only 9 Euros to visit, so worth the stop.

Excellent place to learn a little history of Salzburg with some fun activities for kids. Brilliant use of space and displays. Most narration in German but you could supposedly get an audio guide for your own leisure learning. Funnily we were not told where we could get them. Guy selling tickets by the counter look less than enthusiastic about his role other than making sure everyone deposits their bags before entering. Café within the museum really is a self service coffee maker which you'll need to pay by coins for an espresso or coffee. No food available so be prepared.

Unfriendly staff, only 2 floors of 4 were working and we were not warned about it, also there was another part of the museum to the right from the entrance which was not working as well, and we were not told about that part of the museum at all. It is not worth it compared the money they ask to pay. There were no clear signs throughout the exhibition and that’s why everything looked messy and not related to each other.
