Sie waren ein Ministerialengeschlecht der Babenberger Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts hatte der kleine Wehrbau längst keine militärische Bedeutung mehr und da die Burg auch den gestiegenen Ansprüchen an Wohnlichkeit und Bequemlichkeit nicht mehr entsprach wurde die Burg verlassen und verfiel. Die bescheidenen Reste der einstigen Burg liegen auf einem nach drei Seiten steil abfallenden, felsigen Hügel über der Kamptalstraße. Am besten erhalten ist der heute noch etwa 15 m hohe Bergfried im Osten des Burgareals. Seine Grundfläche beträgt etwa 7 x 8 m, bei einer Mauerstärke von ca. zwei Meter. Von den übrigen Bauten, die sich wohl an die Innenseite der Ringmauer lehnten, sind nur mehr geringe Reste zu erkennen, The castle was first mentioned in 1150 in a document. Heute sind nur noch wenig Gebäude Reste und eine Seite vom Bergfried vorhanden.Sie sind nicht gegen den Verfall geschützt. Parken in der Ortschaft. Beschilderter Weg 15 min. zu Fuß. Die Ruine ist sehr Verwachsen aber trotzdem einen Besuch wert. Kamegg castle ruins. First mentioned in 1150. Was once a great castle.
