Restaurant Rote Bar - Philharmoniker Str. 4

The Hotel Sacher is an extremely historic and beautiful hotel located directly across the road from the Staatsoper. It is THE PERFECT place to be dining before an evening at the opera. I’d recommend booking ahead for a place by the window. The luxurious velvet curtains, softly shimmering chandeliers evoke the sense of a private dining room in an imperial palace. The food was very good: hearty, generous, simple. We had the Wiener Schnitzel and the Roulade, both of which seemed very authentically made. For a classic “Viennese” experience, I think this is probably an extremely good choice. The pianist is one of the best jazz pianists we have encountered in such European establishments. At 7PM, he starts to play a mix of jazz standards and old tunes (he melted my heart with “Fascination”), with a natural, tasteful embellishment on a muted baby grand tucked snugly in the corner of the restaurant. Imagine: you are sipping your tea after a beautiful meal, with a live jazz pianist playing on one side, and and in the other a duet from La Traviata drifting gently through the windows. My only other comment would be the wait, as reflected by some other commenters. The wait staff was also rather small, meaning it was more difficult to get their attention. However, the head waiter provided excellent, professional, and efficient service once we notified him that we were tight on time. I would not deduct a star for this, and would absolutely come back here again.

Best cod that I have ever tasted. Even better than the one I had at one of the fine dinings of Kyoto. Nice live piano music. One thing I didn't like is, too much waiting for next dish. I ordered and waited for 50min to get my sparkling wine and soup. After long flight, I was more exhausted due to this unreasonable long intervals. Staffs were very polite but they never attempted to explain the delay to me or seemed to be sorry. All food were best, though.

Reservation is a must An oasis in the busy city. Food always delivers and good recommendations for drinks. Flexible staff to cater for kids alternatives. We hope to come back

Had the Sachertorte in different locations in Vienna, this one was the best in my opinion. The service and the atmosphere is marvelous.

If you are looking for a fine dining in Vienna for lunch or before/after your shows, that's the place to go. Traditional Austrian dishes and great service. Also the building and the hall is amazing. Small tip, if you go for lunch they might give small complimentary treats!

Nice intimate setting for dinner. Long opening hours and the food is great. Will definitely eat here again the next time we're in Vienna

When I visiting some restaurants, the most important thing for me is food, after - surrounding, services, music. So.. I have tried goose liver torte. It was smart try. I’ve never ate liver with chocolate.. one time you can try, but it’s maximum ?. Vienner schnitzel - if you never tried, then yes, try. Soft veal meat, but it is fried ?; chicken - the same fried piece. And pls note, when you order schnitzel - take one portion for 2, as there go two pieces. The same with the chicken. Now dessert- of cource we took Sacher cake. It is really good.

Great atmosphere! The interior design is almost perfect. The music (live piano) was great. The food though was not as delicious as I can ever have. Stuff was not nice in the beginning. Funny enough Fran Lebovitz was present at the time of our visit. Wine selection was ample with no orange wine.
