Jahrhundert) Aufgrund der Funde im slawischen Fürstensitz in THUNAU/Gars kann eine Zuordnung in das 9. Jahrhundert nach Christus erfolgen. Die Mühlsteine bestehen aus Granitglimmerschiefer: Ursprünglich wurde Ton im Meer abgelagert. Während der Gebirgsbildung wurde Mineralien aus denen der Ton bestand bei hohem Druck (ca.5 - 7 Kilobar) und hoher Temperatur in Glimmerschiefer umgewandelt. Aus diesem Glimmerschiefer - zusammengesetzt mit Quarz und Granaten die als Mahlzähne fungieren - wurden die Rohlinge herausgemeißelt. Diese Mühlsteine wurden in Form einer Drehmühle verwendet und zwar wurden 2 Mühlsteine auf einer Achse gedreht, wobei das Mahlgut in die Achse gegeben wurde und durch die Mahlzähne gemahlen wurde und seitwärts zwischen den Steinen herauskam. Diese Mühlenkonstruktionen sind schon seit der Eisenzeit (ca.750 v.Ch bis 14 v.Ch) bekannt.
