★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dieser Monolith ist der nördliche Vermessungspunkt (Triangulationspunkt) der sogenannten "Wiener Neustädter Basis". Von dieser aus wurde die gesamte Monarchie vermessen. Einerseits, um die genaue Größe der Grundstücke zu kennen (Steuereinnahmen), andererseits zum Erstellen genauer Landkarten.
Ursprünglich lag der Standort näher an der Stadt, gegenüber dem Liesganig-Denkmal.
Joseph Liesganig (1719-1799) war mit der Vermessung beauftragt.
Damals betrug der Abstand zwischen nördlichem und südlichen Basispunkt (kurz vor Neunkirchen) 12.158 m.
Nachmessungen im 20. Jhd. stellten eine Abweichung von wenigen Millimetern pro Kilometer fest.
This monolith is the northern survey point (triangulation point) of the so-called "Wiener Neustädter Basis". From this the entire monarchy was measured. On the one hand to know the exact size of the land (tax revenue), on the other hand to create accurate maps.
Originally, the location was closer to the city, opposite the Liesganig monument.
Joseph Liesganig (1719-1799) was commissioned with the survey.
At that time the distance between north and south base point (shortly before Neunkirchen) 12,158 m.
Residual measurements in the 20th century revealed a deviation of a few millimeters per kilometer.
