Nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Otto Schönthal und der Skulpturengestaltung des Bildhauers Carl Wollek, wurde er 1905 errichtet. Der Brunnen soll an die Uraufführung von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Oper "Die Zauberflöte", die 1791 im Freihaustheater auf der Wieden stattfand, erinnern. Die Skulpturengruppe aus Bronze zeigt Tamino und Pamina, die Hauptfiguren aus der Oper, in der Szene "Wasserprobe". Im weissen Stein gehauen erkennt man Kraken und andere Wasserwesen, die der "Wasserprobe" einen etwas skurrilen Zug, in ihrer Gestaltung dem Brunnen aber eine abschliessende Note geben. Die fünf Wasserspeier sind als Fischköpfe gestaltet, welche ihre Strahlen in ein halbrundes Becken ergiessen. Es ist ein sehr schöner Brunnen, der das Motiv zauberhaft umsetzt. Die Dominanz des Paares, ist vom Material gut hervorgehoben und lässt sie in einprägsamer Eleganz auftreten. The Mozart Fountain, which is also called the Magic Flute Fountain, is located on Mozartplatz, in the 4th district of Wieden. It was built in 1905 based on a design by the architect Otto Schönthal and the sculptural design by the sculptor Carl Wollek. The fountain is intended to commemorate the world premiere of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute", which took place in 1791 in the Freihausheater on the Wieden. The bronze group of sculptures shows Tamino and Pamina, the main characters from the opera, in the "water sample" scene. Carved in the white stone, one recognizes octopuses and other water creatures, which give the "water sample" a somewhat bizarre feature, but give the fountain a final note in their design.
