★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed in the hotel for a week in April. It was the last week of the season and the snow was amazing for the time of year. Bad Gastein is a great resort for adventurous skiers and boarders, with a lot of high quality pistes and accessible off piste.
We booked the hotel stay through Ski Miguel as their price was hard to beat. The package included flights, transfers, hotel, breakfast, evening meal and even cake and coffee as you come of the mountain, which is very welcome.
The Tannenburg has a bar and open lounge downstairs, with a roaring fire. Meals are a communal affair, with a single menu, (though they were able to tweak things for me, as I’m dairy intolerant). The guests we had the pleasure of staying with were great too. It ended up being a very sociable holiday.
Though this was a well priced package deal, it didn’t ever feel ‘budget’. The rooms are well appointed, the meals are rich in flavour and hearty, and the staff very friendly and attentive. There is even Ski guiding thrown in as part of the package.
As you can tell, I can’t recommend the ski area, the hotel or ski miguel enough.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This chalet has seen better days, very old fashioned and falls short in facilities. Very dated decor, even the 100 year old paint flakes off every time you open the window!! Currently being used by Ski Miquel who offer Ski Packages. Roughly 20 ensuite rooms but all resemble accommodation from the 80's. There is a small bar and an equally sized lounge, cozy is an apt description, especially if all the residents are there at the same time. The restaurant is not dissimilar to a transport cafe. On the plus side, it's warm and dry and a short walk to the ski slopes (very steep hills in all directions). Its adequate for a week skiing but certainty no frills!! Would i recommend it?? Probably not.
