It is the only way to get from Hallstatt train station to Hallstatt village and they are aware of that power and they use it. Please be aware that they don't accept card payments, only cash. And please pay at the cashier because otherwise you are going to stay at the queue for boarding unnecesarly.
J	J ALK on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A short ferry ride; runs both ways between the town and the train station. The ferry schedule matches perfectly with train schedule, you will have enough time to catch the train. The ferry is relatively small and crowded, the front is covered, while the back is open which is perfect for photography. Luggage are allowed on board, yet, the path between the train station and ferry station is steep, it might be a little hard to carry luggage, if large and heavy.

T	Trung Nguyen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Horrible people. They (the old man) steal me 10 euro because i didn't know the right price (i was in a hurry). I came back 30 mins later to ask for the money and they said it was my fault that i didn't count the change! What a way to introduce the overrated town

P	Peter Vang Christensen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Schiffstation is small and unmanned and would probably live a life in solitude if it wouldn't have been the only way for people coming by train to Hallstadt. It doesn't have much to offer on its own but will give you an incredible view over Hallstadt and the surrounding mountains. Almost surreal in its beauty.
A	Aylwyn Gan on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small train station coming from Salzburg or Vienna. You can catch the ferry to the town from here for 3euros per person per way and you will need to buy the return ticket from the ticket booth. The ride will take around 10mins across the lake and it can get really crowded during peak season so the queue can take up to 30mins on the return leg.
