Die Grasmayr Villa befindet sich am Salzburger Mönchsberg südlich von der Aussichtswarte Karolinenhöhe (Adresse Dr. Praehauserweg 12). 1656 wurde im Garten eines Domvikars während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges eine gemauerte Pulverstampf zur Herstellung von Schießpulver errichtet. Später folgte ein Holzhaus und es wurde erweitert gemauert mit Keller und Stall. Ein bekannter englischer Künstler kaufte 1865 das Anwesen und ließ es 1868 zu einer stattlichen Villa ausbauen. 1915 erwarb es Alois Grasmayr samt Gattin. Sie fügten einen Aussichtsturm und eine Sternwarte hinzu. Die Villa ist in Privatbesitz und nicht zu besichtigen. Grasmayr verstarb 1955. Er war nicht nur Lehrer und Schriftsteller, sondern auch Hotelier. Ihm gehörte das Hotel Bristol, das Hotel Stein und der legendäre Platzlkeller. Seine Vorlieben waren Reisen durch alle Kontinente, die Sternen- und Planetenwelt, die Schriftstellerei und Photographie und umfangreiche Studien zu Goethes Faust. Eine lebenslange Freundschaft verband ihn mit dem Kunsthistoriker Dr. Ludwig Praehauser.

The Grasmayr Villa is located on Salzburg's Mönchsberg, south of the Karolinenhöhe observation tower (address Dr. Praehauserweg 12). In 1656 a brick powder pound was built in the garden of a cathedral vicar during the Thirty Years War for the production of gunpowder. Later a wooden house followed and it was expanded with a cellar and stable. A well-known English artist bought the property in 1865 and had it converted into a stately villa in 1868. Alois Grasmayr and his wife bought it in 1915. They added a lookout tower and an observatory. The villa is privately owned and cannot be viewed. Grasmayr died in 1955. He was not only a teacher and writer, but also a hotelier. He owned the Hotel Bristol, the Hotel Stein and the legendary Platzlkeller. His preferences were traveling through all continents, the world of stars and planets, writing and photography and extensive studies of Goethe's Faust. A lifelong friendship linked him with the art historian Dr. Ludwig Praehauser.
