Josef Madersperger este unul părintele mașinii de cusut, dar care nu s-a bucurat de beneficiile descoperirii sale!
Josef Madersperger is one of the fathers of the sewing machine, but he did not enjoy the benefits of his discovery!

One of the interesting monuments you will find at Karlsplatz is that of Josef Madersperger, one of the inventors of the sewing machine in the early 19th century. This monument is the works of Karl Philips in 1933. Here you find a bronze bust of an aged Madersperger. He is suited and appears rather tired. The bust is placed upon a granite pedestal with name & date inscriptions. There are numerous other monuments to view at Karlsplatz, including fellow inventors like Josef Ressel and Siegfried Marcus that are nearby.

This monument stands in tribute to Josef Madersperger, an 18th and 19th century Austrian tailor who invented several prototype sewing machines. Sadly he was never able to commercialise his inventions and died in poverty having used up his money to develop his ideas. The monument is a bronze bust of Madersperger and depicts him as a man of late middle age with long hair and a receding hairline. The bust shows his upper torso and dressed in a suit. The monument is located in Resselpark amongst many other monuments in the park. Worth a quick look if you’re in Resselpark, but I wouldn’t go out of the way otherwise.
