Es wird vermutet, dass die Burg um 1200 errichtet wurde. 1285 wird sie dann erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Starke Pflanzenbewuchs des Burghügels sowie die jahrhundertelange Verwendung der Ruine als Steinbruch durch die örtliche Bevölkerung hatten dazu geführt, dass von der einst stattlichen Burg nur mehr kümmerliche Reste über das Bodenniveau herausragten. Noch in den dreißiger Jahren des vergangen Jahrhunderts wurden größere Steinmengen aus dem Burgbereich für die Errichtung eines Schwimmbades verwendet und auch die Geschichte der Burg geriet allmählich in Vergessenheit. Das gesamte Burgareal hat eine Fläche von ca. 5.000 m² und wird von einer fast 300 Meter langen Umfassungsmauer umrahmt. Auf diesem großen ebenen Areal befindet sich heute ein Spielplatz . A large playground on historic ground, the Wagrain castle hill. It is believed that the castle was built around 1200. It was first mentioned in a document in 1285. The strong vegetation of the castle hill and the centuries-old use of the ruin as a quarry by the local population had meant that only a few remains of the once stately castle protruded above the ground level. In the 1930s, large amounts of stone from the castle area were used for the construction of a swimming pool and the history of the castle was gradually forgotten. The entire castle area has an area of approximately 5,000 m² and is framed by an almost 300 meter long wall. There is now a playground on this large flat area.
