Can only back-up what other negative reviewers state here regarding random charges and other practices - and what one reviewer aptly described as 'the dark side of car rental' at the Votivpark branch. Queried 500 euro overcharge- given no receipt to check properly (told to login to Avis.com even though invoices take min. 36 hours to generate)- checked bank account before leaving Votivpark office - and it was confirmed the overcharge had indeed been made. Still waiting for the promised refund after over an hour standing in the office being gaslighted - have informed my bank and they've set up fraud investigation. Never using Avis/Budget again - despite years of problem free rental. See also the negative reviews regarding Avis and their scams on overcharging for currency conversion.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We always rent with Avis as we are preferred member but last rental we had a very bad experience. We were charged 15 euros more for apparently not bringing the car on time. Although we brought it even earlier than the time specified in the booking details. The invoice said we gave it on Monday at 10 am and we actually gave it back Sunday at 20:30. There was even in the car the parking entry ticket with the time stamp on it. So they need to hire some competent people which know how to check when cars are brought back. We tried to call 100 times to complain that the invoice they sent is wrong, but nobody ever picks up the phone no matter which line you call. We open a ticket online but no reply so far. Such a bad customer service really motives you to opt for different rental companies.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have rented a car using the Avis mobile app, I even got more than 12 options for a car that I could choose from, everything went ok, I got a confirmation number and email, but when I arrived to the office to pick up the car the guy from the office asked me “How did you get a confirmation number as we have no cars available?. Sorry, there’s nothing we can do for you”. So we had to cancel the travel plans for our vacation as there were no other rent a car options in such a short time. Will definitely avoid this company in the future.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I rented a car for 2 days and I had a really good experience with Avis. I was concerned reading the negative reviews, but for me the experience was quite positive. Sabine was very helpful at the counter and there were no real issues with the car. I highly recommend them based on this experience. One small recommendation. The car came with GPS but it was difficult to change the language from German to English. I spent 20 minutes and then gave up. I returned to the counter and the helpful staff made the change. I suggest some instructions in the future as I expect many tourists would have the same issue.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Contrarily to what I was said at the front desk, my car wasn’t fully tanked. I nevertheless tanked the car for more than how I received it and I took pictures before and after my rental period. I sent all the pictures to the customer service but I have been charged additional fees for not tanking the car fully. After a month and several attempts to contact the customer service I still haven’t received an answer and/or my money back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When renting the car, I was told that it had a toll-paying device installed, and that I would be billed for any tolls within Austria. Imagine my surprise when, months later, I received a 300EUR fine from the Austrian authorities for failure to pay tolls!
Now I'll need to spend time on the phone working this out with them and figuring out why their device didn't work...
