If you want to experience opera with a lower price, plan ahead and look for the cheapest tickets online. Don't queue up for the standing ticket. We queued up for more than 1 h for the 10€ ticket to see a performance. It wasn't a opera but a ballet - Swan Lake. At the end, it was totally a waste of time and money. We got the ticket from the edge of the balcony. (Don't know why, but we actually had seat.) We could only max 1/4 of the stage. Did't know what was happening, cuz we couldn't see anything. We weren't allowed to stand. Was quite unlucky to attend a ballet event. If I paid €10 for 1/4 of the stage + extremely far, then it would cost me 40€ to see the whole stage. So it didn't worth it at all. If it was a opera, at least we would be able to enjoy the skills / voice of the opera singers. I decided to leave after finishing half. Disappointing. The interior was very beautiful tho.

One of the place you need to visit. The guide tour will be nice choice to start with. There are two things you need to be careful.1. you can always buy opera ticket in their own box office. 2. You need to bring your photo ID if you will see the show.

Beautiful opera house. The setting is fantastic and as the performance hall is not too big you have a very clear view of what is happening on the stage. Friendly and helpful staff. Definitely a must to visit on a trip to Vienna

It was Molière who said, “Of all the noises known to man, opera is the most expensive”. Finally, we got to the Vienna Opera ! Prices are rather expensive, for the Parkett seats- 239 € for the opera of “The Barber of Seville (Il barbiere di Siviglia)”by Gioachino Rossini and Giovanni Paisiello. Such an excitement! Gorgeous building with Magnificent interior. Interesting historical fact: both Vienna Opera building and Palais Garnier building for Paris Opera started to build in the same 1861 year.

Although it is the most famous and arguably the most flamboyant opera in the world, I think the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg is the bigger and more impressive than this one. I strongly suggest to see an opera here, even though the prices are extremely expensive (if you want to get a decent view of the stage). You can also buy a standing ticket before the show with more reasonable prices but it can get too exhausting to watch by standing 3-hour long and it's very hard to see the stage properly from that high distance.

The seats on the floor are like a big theatre hall. You can see from those seats without a binoculars but it is better not to buy from the backs especially if you are short. Also, I think the balcony seats are better if you can find a place from the front of balcony. We couldn't see the orchestra because we were sitting on the seats on floor. Anyways, you can rent binoculars for 2 euros in there. Don't go with tracksuits or shorts, they don't force you to wear suits but they won't let you in if you wear something not usual or daily life. NOTE FOR UNDER 27 AGE: you can buy any ticket for 20 euros, search about it on the website. It is really easy to do and you can even buy the front seats for 20 €.

This is an amazing experience, it's a must to visit if you love opera. Each seat is equipped with a small screen that has the script on in English, French or German so no need to buy the libretto (booklet). All the good places are usually fully booked so I recommend you book ahead of time.

Amazing experience. Went to see Rigoletto and the production was flawless, impeccable. The theatre itself is a jewel. It's so enormous that I didn't even have time to see all the rooms. Definitely visit if you're in Vienna.
