Vienna Airport Bus Station

This airport is known for having the fastest layovers in Europe and it lived up to it's reputation. On my 50 minute layover I was able to disembark the plan, clear customs, and make it to the next gate with enough time. Surprisingly efficient!

The worst airport set-up with security check in front of the boarding gate (!?) I am absolutely puzzled by whatever rationale for such set up they could have. To keep people away from food and water maybe...just keep them stranded in a small waiting space with couple of coffee machines which don't even work!!! Well done Vienna!

Super tidy and well organized airport

So secure and strictly. Online service is faster as on the desk. Once you have your valid ticket, there is always help on the way.

I guess the pandemic hit the airport hard. I arrived in Vienna and wanted to take a train to the city. Half of the machines were broken and on those that worked I could not figure out for my life how to purchase a single trip to the city center. They seemed to only sell regional tickets. I ended up buying a 24h multiple trips ticket which is more than double what I should have paid, because that was the only option available even with ample ticket machine experience and trying for 10+ min. There were no conductors to be found for the RJX to check if my overpriced ticket was valid for that train (I walked the entire length of the train twice). For some reason the S7 does not even go to the city center anymore and required changing to a different train somewhere halfway. Of course no mention or explanation of this anywhere in the station. CAT trains don't seems to be running at all. But no info, just the general absence and broken machines. The schedule to and from the airports are patchy. Cound on having to wait 30min or more for a train. And don't expect clear indication of if the train will actually pass the airport or not or if your ticket is valid for that train. I have not seen many airports that make it this hard to get there or leave.

IT WAS AWFUL. I never had such a stressful experience anywhere in the world, in any airport. My Austrian Airlines flight from London was delayed by about 50 minutes on some obscure and never clearly explained reason. So I only had about 10 minutes to get to my connection flight to Varna (also Austrian Airlines). The problem is, on the way from arrivals to departures there isn’t a single information board that would tell you where your departure gate is. I was running like mad and eventually found one such information board, in the end of this rather large airport opposite to the gate I had to run to. And, by the way, Austrian Airlines business class lounge is really mediocre (obviously, I only had a chance to experience it on the way TO London). The only kind of warm meal you can get there is a soup. And there is plenty of booze of any kind to go with that soup. But, to be fair, the views from the lounge are good.

Very nice and clean big airport. To reach city you can use some new private fast and more expensive train or public transport. And if you have bought day pass (always optimal one, 3 days in my case) you will still have to buy additional ticket for the public train. And when in train they told me that I need to go to second class cabins and that happened to all around me so we were herded to other part of the train ... that should be included in day pass as people will use it maximum two times per person so it does not make any sense.
