★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you are visiting Austria for longer than a week, put it on your itinerary. Located in a wine growing area along the Danube, you can reach it also by ship through very scenic areas.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is a lovely old chapel in the monastery, like a baroque explosion inside. We attended a short organ concert there which was very enjoyable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The ruined castle above the town is a heck of a climb but the views are fabulous. The town itself is small but very attractive with lovely shops. The castle is where Richard I was held prisoner. Legend has it that the bard Blondel found him by singing outside the castle and you will see references to both of the men all over town. A lovely place to visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is a small village and church where is closed to the river to be worth to visit. And there is souvenir shop that you can buy magnet stuffs or other things like wine, cross. I am so lucky to see there is a local activity occurs I really like it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful little UNESCO village in the Wachau Valley with the famous blue Baroque stift. Durnstein is also famous for the castle ruins which held Richard the Lionheart captive as well as its vineyards. A walk through the old town is a lovely experience with many shops selling local products to souvenirs and keepsakes. The castle is about 30 minutes uphill walk but the view over the Danube is well worth it

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We drove to Dürnstein from Vienna and were amazed at how beautiful this town was. It was just after the new year so not much was happening but we loved the visit.
