★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best examples of insanely rich catholic, baroque buildings in Europe. Very impressive; built on a hilltop with view on the Danube river, lots of beautiful statues and art, decorated in gold and bronze. Nice and peacefull garden.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pretty ordinary lock, but (heading downstream) if you are on the deck or front of the boat as the lock gates open, there is a perfect view of Melk Abbey in the distance which is perfectly framed by the lock. Worth getting up early for on a cold winter morning!
