Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung von Wimburg erfolgte im Jahr 1076. Aber bereits ab 1572 ist die Burg verödet. Die teilweise stark verfallene Burgruine weist jedoch bemerkenswerten architektonischen Details auf. Besonders beeieindruckend ist der mächtige, zumindest 4-gesch. Rundturm, der nur über den östl. Hocheinstieg erreichbar gewesen ist. Er weist einen Durchmesser von rund 10,60 m und bis zu 3,55 m starke Mauern auf. Über das Areal verstreut finden sich noch weitere interessante Teile von Mauern und Gebäuderesten und lassen das Herz des Burgen- bzw. Ruinenfreundes höher schlagen. Ein wunderschöner Ausflug in lieblicherLandschaft und vielleicht mit einem Abstecher in die sehenswerte Ysperklamm. The remains of the former castle are located in the natural Yspertal and wonderfully hidden in the mixed forest. Wimburg was first mentioned in a document in 1076. But by 1572 the castle was already deserted. However, the ruined castle, which is in some parts heavily decayed, has remarkable architectural details. Particularly impressive is the mighty, at least 4-tier. Round tower that can only be reached via the eastern high entrance. It has a diameter of around 10.60 m and walls up to 3.55 m thick. Scattered over the area there are other interesting parts of walls and building remains and make the heart of the castle and ruin friend beat faster. A wonderful excursion in a lovely landscape and perhaps with a detour to the Ysperklamm, which is well worth seeing.
