★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monument stands in tribute to Raphael Donner, an 18th century Austrian sculptor of Baroque art and known for his prolific his prolific output, including the Pieta at the cathedral in Gurk.
This monument is a bronze sculpture of Donner wearing a smock and standing next to a table. On the tables is another sculpture, an allusion to the work of Donner, which depicts a Providentia and holding an ancient Greek style shield decorated with a figure of Janus.
This monument is located on a busy road junction on Lothringerstraße, near the Soviet War Monument and Hochstrahlbrunnen. I saw it on my way to those attractions and it’s worth a quick detour if you have the time.
