Heute entspringt dieses ökologisch wertvolle Augewässer, als Überlauf des Großen Weikerlsees, einem Baggersee der 1940er Jahre und direkt an der Traunmündung gelegen und durchfließt auf einer Länge von rund 9 Kilometern eine wunderbare und naturbelassene Auenlandschaft, mit seiner üppigen Vegetation, Tier- und Artenvielfalt, um dann nördlich von Lorch, bei Kronau, in die Donau zu münden. Ein Streifzug durch dieses Gebiet schenkt Ruhe, Entspannung und Erholung.
In the past, the Mitterwasser was a tributary of the Danube and was even navigable.
Today this ecologically valuable water rises as an overflow of the Great Weikerlsee, a quarry pond from the 1940s and located directly at the mouth of the Traun and flows through a wonderful and natural meadow landscape, with its lush vegetation, animal and biodiversity, over a length of around 9 kilometers then north of Lorch, at Kronau, to flow into the Danube. A stroll through this area gives you peace, relaxation and recreation.
