The cinema is wonderful, good sound and visual quality! Interesting program! Only thing, that irritated me was the waiter at the bar, who tried to be super artsy but actually was just unfriendly in his ways.

Very beautiful and authentic old (period) cinema. TOo bad the people working at the bar are very lazy, and always shut down the espresso machine a good couple of hours before closing time, ("for cleaning") whereas many people who go to the movies there (many of them Italians) look forward to a treat at the bar afterwards.

It's always a wonderful experience to visit the Metro Kinokulturhaus. Here you can always find a gem from the Austrian filmhistory or and artfilm running. The surroundings are wonderful, and in it's modern restauration it is completely true to the Viennese style and concept of interior design.

Metro Cinema Culture House The new house for Austrian and international film shows retrospectives and homages as well as interesting temporary exhibitions. The centrepiece of the new Metro Kinokulturhaus is a listed historic cinema hall dating from 1893, which was converted into a theatre in 1924. With its wooden panelling and red interior, it is today one of the most beautiful cinema halls in Vienna. From the spacious foyer, visitors can look into the hall through a glass wall. The two floors directly above the cinema were converted into a cinema culture house through extensive extension work. The total exhibition space of 500 m² shows changing exhibitions on the subject of film, cinema history, also in direct connection with retrospectives and film shows. On the first floor there is an additional new cinema hall with 49 seats, named after the Vienna-born film producer Eric Pleskow. In keeping with Vienna as a city of film, the Metro Kinokulturhaus is intended to make the topic of film and cinema historically, culturally and socially visible with changing exhibitions. At the same time, it offers the Filmarchiv Austria the opportunity to present its activities.

The "Metro" is a unique place. Its intérieur has the noblesse of old times, you can get very good wine there for a friendly price, and you need not watch a movie in the theatre, you can just sit there at a table as a guest. My wife loves to visit this place together with me when she comes to Vienna, and her dog - a beautiful Red Irish Setter - was not only allowed to enter the foyer with us, but he was served fresh water for drinking by the nice young personnel. When I recently visited the Metro once again before a concert, I forgot my umbrella in the restroom, and when I returned after the concert, a young man brought me the umbrella.
