That kind of place has become rare. Very old furnishings, in the style of the late monarchy. A general sense of snug luxury. Very cozy and beautiful. No loud music, the guests keep their voices down and keep to themselves. The cakes we tried were just delicious, with the best that I've eaten. One thing that warms my heart as someone who loves Austrian coffee (and alas Hungarian in that case) is, that you can actually order "Verlängerten braun" and you actually get a softer coffee with milk instead of a riddled waitress that ends up bringing a Capuccino with milk foam on top. Another thing that was remarkable was that when the waitress spilled some coffee (just that the saucer was full of coffee), she apologized and brought me new coffee. Nowadays the waiter would apologize, but be quite taken aback if you actually wanted replacement. Not the case here. That kind of courtesy is something I like to indulge in once in a while. Cafés used to be like that, but the heartbeat of todays society is too fast to wait for these kind of attention.

We have been there quite a few times; nice decoration, good quality cakes and even some Hungarian specialties. Definitely NOT children/family friendly though. Today we were there with our 2.5 years old son, who started playing with little packs of sugar on the table. I had already told him not to that and took the sugar packs away from him. Nonetheless we have been warned in a quite impolite manner by a particular waitress lady. By no means do I think that my child is free to do anything but I do think that the level of reaction was too much. We will not go there again.

A small place, feels like you cane to visit your auntie. Great desserts and fantastic chocolate: I bought them multiple times for gifts and they were greatly appreciated. Very nice for a coffee/tea with an indulging piece of sweets. In the winter, if it’s a little crowded it becomes somewhat hot: they like to put heating on max in Austria. One of my favorite places. Recommend.

Mathias Szamos is quite famous in Budapest where he runs the amazing café Ruszwurm and offers a magnificent lemon cake and the Gellénházy torta (THE definit chestnut cake). He’s still rather unknown here in Vienna. Nonetheless, his products are excellent and worth any detour, a trip even. All of the tortes and cakes are outstanding—even the Sacher cake is stunning. If you can’t decide, I recommend the Dobos and the Eszterházy tortes, my two favorites. But there’s so many other things you should make a point to try. So there’s nothing left to do but to plan to come here more than once. The place itself is rather small but cozy.

This is my new favourite place to have coffee and something sweet in Vienna! The coffee is better than the average in Vienna (if you like real coffee), there are lots of delicious cakes, tartes, chocolate, bonbons..., the place is really nice in an old style way, and the staff is nice and helpful.
