Schrecksee is incredibly beautiful lake. ???

Fantastic lake to visit. To anybody who complains about paying 10 euros for parking, what else in the world can you see that is so beautiful at such a cheap price?! It's best to get to the parking early (before 8?) as during August, spaces filled quickly. Follow the road until you get to a building next to a bridge then go through the gate and follow the path. I highly recommend bringing hiking boots, walking sticks, layered clothing, waterproofs, 1l+ drinking water, food (energy drinks/fruit, a beer for the summit etc), suncream, insect spray, first aid kit... And whatever else you need to carry. The start point is steep, made of loose stones and mud, and the gradient basically doesn't change for most of the 1000m you may climb. I went with a 6 year old boy who made it there and back talking all the way but I think the trek could be too much for some people. Many on the path seem ill equipped for the journey. Even though we started in 20+c hot sunshine, we made it back before a torrential downpour and despite it being August, by night the temperature was 6c. There was even still traces of snow beyond the lake, so travellers should be prepared. However, the journey and the lake are well worth the effort!
