The Johannes Chapel in Pürgg was built around 900 years ago.
In the chapel there are Romanesque frescoes which were created around 840 years ago by order of the ark deacon Heinrich von Grauscharn, by Byzantine artists who were in the Salzburg art circle.
The Romanesque frescoes are now considered valuable historical works of art.

This impressive chapel on a hill in the pleasant town of Pürgg has to be combined with the visit to the parochial church.
It is not surprising that this town is considered "the cradle of Styria" paying attention to the frescoes of this precious and intimate temple. They narrate a medieval battle based on a fable of Esop on the forts (cats) and the most vulnerable (the mice). There are also numerous ecclesiastical references and symbols. The frescoes are quite well preserved, including polychrome. Suddenly finding this wonder in a mostly baroque country.
I hope that this town and these churches continue to be a treasure that is not very frequented and so calm as to this part of Styria today.
At the time and time of visiting it was open until 5:00 PM!
