A unique piece of earth, beautiful. High alpine pasture with large trees with sycamore maple up to 600 years old. A small alpine village with cheese dairy, catering and a farm shop and everything is embedded in a wonderfully picturesque setting. A really magical place and arguably one of the most beautiful dead ends in the Alps. If you have the opportunity, you should go there during the week, as it is a lot quieter than on the weekend.

Best time would be around 10:30 am when the sun shows in the valley.

What a marvelous view and what a gorgeous place for hiking! It's also a small paradise for landscape photographers. Most of the trees are several hundred years old (up to 700). Remember to keep walking only on the designated trails and take your trash back with you! Be mindful of the beautiful nature so it will last! Note that the last 15 kilometers to the nature reserve are toll road and even though it's in Austria, you can only access through Germany. Entry by car is only possible during summer time until end of October (see homepage Wegegemeinschaft Hinterriss). In winter the toll road is closed so the valley becomes hard to reach.
