★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Landhaus is reminiscent of some Venice palazzo. In 1557, the Italian architect Domenico dell’Allio started to construct a prestigious building for the Styrian estates. It still is the provincial parliament of Styria.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We walked through this mostly empty example of the first Renaissance building to be built in the city of Graz, starting in 1557. Today the Styria State Parliament meets in the lavish parlor. Otherwise, it is a wonderful example of Italian architecture with its lovely arches, tiers, and stonework, but it looked like it was unoccupied, as it is used mostly for festivals. The street was busy and noisy, but inside on the piazza, it was quiet and hushed. The Famous Glockenspiel sits atop the gable roof and at described times, the doors open and mechanical dancers appear to 'dance' to the chimes.
