Das Verbot von Ethylenoxid ist in Deutschland durch die Verordnung über Anwendungsverbote für Pflanzenschutzmittel geregelt. Seit 1991 ist es als Pflanzenschutzmittel auch in der gesamten EU vollständig verboten. Für Sesam und andere Ölsaaten ist der Höchstgehalt seit 2015 auf 0,05 mg/kg festgesetzt. Denn in anderen Ländern (insbesondere Indien) wird das Pflanzenschutzgift noch eingesetzt – und zwar bei Sesamsaat. Es gelangt durch Importe von Sesamsaat in die EU !!!
