The Danube Female Fountain (Donauweibchenbrunnen) is one of many monuments which can be viewed at Stadtpark in Vienna. This is a fountain monument originally created by Austrian sculptor Hanns Gasser in 1858. Badly damaged during WWII, the statue was replaced with the present stone copy in 1948. Here you see an elegant female figure known as the Danube Female, a mythical individual who was believed to have helped distressed fisherman against the flooding of the nearby Danube River. The figure stands posing upon a single column. At the bottom of the column are four small wells, which as expected were not in use during my late February visit. In the end, unlike the many stately busts and statue figures of Austrian composers, writers and artists scattered around Stadtpark, Donauweibchenbrunnen is considerably more classical in nature, shape, form and concept. It makes for a nice change while monument viewing at Stadtpark.
