Rührige Konditorei inmitten der historischen Altstadt von Retz.
Die Betreiber sind sehr bemüht und freundlich. Die Mehlspeisen sind sehr gut, der Kaffee ebenso.
Im Inneren der Konditorei gibt es eine Dauerausstellung zur TV-Serie ‚Julia, eine ungewöhnliche Frau‘ welche in Retz um die Jahrtausendwende gedreht wurde. Zahlreiche Devotionalien schmücken den Innenraum, das ‚Juliahäferl‘ wird auch zum Kauf angeboten.
Angeboten wird dementsprechend auch eine Juliatorte (Nussbiskuit, Schokoladecreme und Marzipan) für welche sich alleine schon die Anreise lohnt.
Die Konditorei und der Hauptplatz sind vom Bahnhof in wenigen Minuten Fußmarsch gut zu erreichen, die öffentliche Anbindung an Wien ist als durchaus gut zu bezeichnen (RegionalExpress im Stundentakt)
Pastry shop in the old town
Lively pastry shop in the middle of the historic old town of Retz.
The operators are very hard-working and friendly. The pastries are very good, as is the coffee.
Inside the pastry shop there is a permanent exhibition on the TV series 'Julia, an unusual woman' which was filmed in Retz around the turn of the millennium. Numerous devotional objects decorate the interior, the 'Juliahäferl' is also available for purchase.
Accordingly, there is also a July cake (nut biscuit, chocolate cream and marzipan) for which the journey alone is worthwhile.
The pastry shop and the main square can be easily reached in a few minutes on foot from the train station, the public connection to Vienna can be described as quite good (RegionalExpress every hour)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Charming - what one imagines places like this were like in the 60s or 70s. Quality is decent and the proprietors are friendly. More than 13€ for two small slices of torte and two drinks seems excessive to me.
