Ordered carryout from Di Casa, and the “Inferno Mortale” pizza does not disappoint! ??? The menu lists it after “Vulcano (hot),” “Vesuvio (very hot).” The Inferno Mortale is described as “inedibly hot,” and, if you order it, the staff will warn you that it is so, and that it is not a joke. I ordered it anyway. I have a high tolerance for spicy food, and in ten years living in Austria, I have yet to encounter any food, even in Indian restaurants, that provides an exhilarating level of spicy heat. My family ordered three other kinds of pizza which were all very good. I ate one bite of mine, with everyone watching. The jalapeños on it are the *least* of your worries. The not-so-secret sauce is the olive oil infused with Carolina Reaper peppers. That first bite started very nice, with heat that built and built and never stopped. Big sip of cold water. By the second bite, my face was red and my wife said she could tell how hot it was by the way I was chewing it - as if I could somehow keep it from touching the inside of my mouth. I finished the first piece (this is restaurant pizza, meant for one or two people, so the pieces aren’t large) with just water. The second piece required some milk to absorb the heat (I even added some cream I had on hand). I couldn’t eat a third piece. I consider this to be a challenge I was unable to meet, and no failing on the restaurant. In fact, I applaud them for putting something so unique on the menu. Bravo! I hope you enjoy their pizza if you come to the beautiful Heiligenblut, and if you want a real challenge that will entertain your companions, try the Inferno Mortale. For myself, next time I will try the Vesuvio. ?
