P	Patrice Kaiser on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sehr schön gelegen und gut zu erreichen (Schildern ab Vils oder Alatsee folgen). Es sind noch große Teile des Bergfrieds und Reste der Ringmauer zu erkennen. Guter Blick über das Tal (vom Kieswerk mal abgesehen). Ein schöner Zielpunkt für eine Rundwanderung ab dem Alatsee. Keine Gastro etc. nur Denkmal. Very nicely located and easy to reach (follow signs from Vils or Alatsee). Large parts of the keep and remnants of the curtain wall can still be seen. Good view over the valley (apart from the gravel works). A nice destination for a circular hike from the Alatsee. No gastro etc. only monument.

Mit ihrem Besitz waren beträchtliche Einnahmen durch Zölle und Geleitrechte verbunden. Ihre Erbauer waren die edelfreien Herren von Hohenegg - ein bedeutendes Adelsgeschlecht aus dem Westallgäu, das von dem mächtigen Geschlecht der Rettenberger abstammte. Leider ist nur noch der Burgfried erhalten... Vilsegg Castle was built on a steep Wetterstein rock as an unmistakable, imposing center of power around 1220/30, directly on the much-traveled trade route, the Via Claudia Augusta, which ran along the northern edge of the Vils valley. Significant income from customs duties and escort rights was associated with their possessions. Its builders were the noble lords of Hohenegg - an important noble family from the Westallgäu, which descended from the powerful Rettenberg family. Unfortunately only the keep is still preserved ...

Schöner Ausblick auf das Vilstal von hier. Nice trip to the ruin on the bike tour through the Vilstal. There is a board with explanations about the history of the ruin. Nice view of the Vilstal from here.

Liegt auf dem Weg zur Salober Alm welche man nach einem ,manchmal etwas steilerem, Anstieg nach knapp einer dreiviertel Stunde erreicht!! Nice walk from the Vils sports field. Beautiful view . Located on the way to the Salober Alm, which you can reach after an, sometimes a bit steeper ascent after three quarters of an hour!

Ein ungepflegter Weg geht zu den letzten Resten der zugewucherten Ruine...durch Gestrüpp erreicht man die Mauern...auch dort überall Brennnesseln...letztlich hat man ein netten Blick auf den Ort der von dem ansässigen Zementwerk dominiert wird...ich kann die Tour nicht empfehlen... Not a really impressive place. An unkempt path leads to the last remnants of the overgrown ruin ... through undergrowth you reach the walls ... stinging nettles everywhere ... ultimately you have a nice view of the place that is dominated by the local cement works ... me can't recommend the tour ...
J	John Doe on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Eine schöne Ruine die man in seiner Tour gut einbinden kann.Ob von Vils/Tirol nach Füssen oder umgekehrt. Der Aufstieg geht etwas steil und die letzten Meter zur Ruine sind etwas beschwerlich ,was aber ,mit einer schönen Aussicht belohnt wird.Des weiteren kann man nicht komplett um die Ruine gehen, sondern nur von einer Seite ins innere gelangen.Im Winter sollte man Iso-Sitzmatten dabei haben um sich setzen zu können da keine Bank oder ähnliches vorhanden ist. Im Sommer bietet die Wiese eine schöne Liegefläche. A beautiful ruin that you can easily include in your tour, whether from Vils / Tirol to Füssen or vice versa. The ascent is a bit steep and the last few meters to the ruin are a bit difficult, but it is rewarded with a beautiful view. Furthermore, you cannot go completely around the ruin, but only get inside from one side - Have seat mats with you to be able to sit down as there is no bench or similar. In summer, the meadow offers a nice lying area.
