Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde den Besitzern jedoch die Burg Obertrixen zu klein und ungemütlich und daher wurde 1605 am Fuß des Burgberges ein stattliches Renaissanceschloss errichtet und die Burg dem Verfall preisgegeben. Heute findet man von der einstigen Wehranlage noch Bruchsteinmauerwerk des Wohnturmes, des Wohngebäudes und der Burgkapelle.
Für jeden Liebhaber von Burgruinen ein empfehlenswerter Ausflug und gleichzeitig kann im Anschluss daran noch die in der Nähe befindliche und sehenswerte Ruine Mittertrixen besichtigt werden.
 Obertrixen Castle was first mentioned in a document as early as 895
In the 16th century, however, Obertrixen Castle became too small and uncomfortable for the owners and therefore a stately Renaissance castle was built at the foot of the castle hill in 1605 and the castle was left to decay. Today you can still find the quarry stone masonry of the residential tower, the residential building and the castle chapel from the former fortification.
A recommendable excursion for every lover of castle ruins and at the same time the nearby ruins of Mittertrixen can be visited afterwards.
