Burgruine Gleiß Interessante und sehenswerte Reste dieser einstigen Wehranlage, welche heute eher ein Schattendasein fristen, und das obwohl die Bundesstraße Amstetten – Waidhofen unmittelbar an der Ruine vorbeiführt. Eine erste Burg dürfte um 1050 zur Sicherung des eben gerodeten Gebietes errichtet worden sein. Auf einem Kupferstich von Georg Matthäus Vischer aus dem Jahre 1672 ist ein prächtiger mehrgeschoßiger Schlossbau dargestellt, von welchem heute leider nur noch bescheidene Mauern und Mauerreste vorhanden sind. Die Burg wurde auf einem dicht bewaldeten Felssporn über dem rechten Ufer der Ybbs erbaut. Durch die Ybbs und einem zusätzlich künstlich angelegten Flussarm erschien es, als würde sich Gleiß auf einer Insel befinden. Vom Bergfried, den Wohngebäuden der Kernburg, und den Bering- und Wehrmauern sind nur noch Reste vorhanden. Am besten erhalten ist eine mit Kanonenscharten bestückte Außenmauer der Kasematten. Sie ist der jüngste Bauteil des Burgschlosses und stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert.

Gleiß castle ruins Interesting and worth seeing remains of this former fortification, which today lead a rather shadowy existence, even though the federal highway Amstetten - Waidhofen leads directly past the ruins. A first castle was probably built around 1050 to secure the area that had just been cleared. A copper engraving by Georg Matthäus Vischer from 1672 depicts a magnificent multi-storey palace building, of which unfortunately only modest walls and remains of walls remain today. The castle was built on a densely wooded rocky spur above the right bank of the Ybbs. Due to the Ybbs and an additional artificial arm of the river, it seemed as if Gleiß was on an island. Only remnants of the keep, the residential buildings of the core castle, and the bering and defensive walls are left. The outer wall of the casemates, equipped with cannon slots, is best preserved. It is the youngest part of the castle and dates from the 16th century.
